Crunchy Mama Box Review July 2020

Crunchy Mama Box is a curated monthly subscription box that provides natural and eco-friendly self-care to fellow crunchy mamas. They kindly sent us this box for review.

July Box Details

The July box theme is “Solstice”

“This is the solstice, the still point of the sun, its cusp and midnight, the year’s threshold and unlocking, where the past lets go of and becomes the future; the place of caught breath.”
– Margaret Atwood

I love that quote and also this month’s Crunchy Mama Box theme! Summer is my all time favorite season for the sunshine and the summer solstice has to be the best day of the year since it’s the longest amount of daylight we get each 365. This month’s box contents are bright and sunny and as usual are a great reminder for us moms to take care of ourselves. Summer can get busy, but there should always be time made to slow down a bit too.

Here’s a look at what’s in this month’s Crunchy Mama Box:

Box Insert

This is such an informational box insert and has a nice layout like a tiny newspaper. On the front it boldly lists this month’s theme along with an inspiring quote and the company’s mission. It also provides information on the Cause Partner that they are donating to this month which happens to be the YWCA of Knoxville & Tennessee Valley for July. The YWCA provides life-saving services to women and their families in times of crisis. Inside the insert are detailed descriptions of each item including icons for those that are vegan or Leaping Bunny certified. The back page includes information on the stone of the month, how to work with it and a meditation and mantra that align with it’s healing powers.

Midflower Rosa Damascena Biocellulose Peel Mask

“MÍDFLOWER is dedicated to providing you the finest ingredients and eliminating preservatives to help you with your beauty goals. We recognize how vital water is in developing sheet masks that deliver better, long lasting results. Instead, of using just regular ‘ol water, our masks are crafted with the power of floral water. Our silky soft sheet masks are infused with the essence of pure, floral water – signaling feelings of love, care and gentleness. We keep Mother Nature in mind by utilizing all natural, biodegradable plant fibers. Treat yourself to the sweet embrace of our sheet masks at any moment to renew, moisturize or to purify your skin.”

I’ve never tried peel mask like this before. I have tried sheet masks, but this one seems slightly different. It’s made with only Rosa Damascena Flower Water infused into a biocellulose material. I like that it’s such simple ingredients! You apply the sheet and wear for 60 minutes, until it’s dry and then you remove it. The mask binds to dead skin cells lifting them off as you remove it and the rose water leaves your skin glowing. This sounds like a relaxing plan for a quiet evening!

Raw Elements Lip Rescue Spf 30

“I’ve been an Ocean Lifeguard my whole life, and through that experience I discovered how harmful chemical sunscreens are for our personal health and the health of our environment. I was really horrified at this discovery. I went on a quest to find a safe and effective solution, but one just did not exist. After doing a great deal of research, I turned my kitchen into a lab and began formulating my own. My goal was to develop a natural sunscreen that could keep up with the active person and develop a brand that could connect with many different types of people. I really felt there was a huge void and so many people needed access to this type of sunscreen. This process led to the development of Raw Elements USA. We are committed to having a positive impact on all that we do.” – Brian Guadagno, founder

I’ve tried the Raw Elements sunscreen before but never this lip protection balm so it’s a great item to receive. Lip sunscreen is probably easily forgotten about, but it’s a necessary item for any prolonged sun time during the summer. Lips can easily get burned so it’s important to apply sunscreen to them while outside too. This one is made with all natural ingredients and is completely reef safe. It smells herbal and fresh – I really like the aroma. It definitely has a bit of a thicker texture, but it’s creamy and applies well. It will leave a hint of white cast, but that’s the zinc oxide doing it’ job. I’ll definitely be popping this one in the beach bag for any (if any?) outings we might be able to fit in this year.

Electric Hand Mixer

“Whip up your favorite summer smoothie on the go with this portable Electric Hand Mixer! Perfect for trying out your two new Kuli Kuli smoothie mixes also included in the Solstice Box. Batteries are also included so you can get mixing right away!”

I don’t have one of these yet and had always eyed them for frothing up some milk for tea lattes so this is fun! It sounds like a great partner for the included smoothies too. I like when items in a subscription box work together. It’s great that they included batteries too so it’s all good to go for smoothies on-the-go!

Kuli Kuli Chocolate Peanut Butter Green Smoothie Mix

“Kuli Kuli’s founder Lisa Curtis first tried moringa while serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in a small village in Niger. As a vegetarian, she was eating mostly rice and millet – a diet that left her feeling weak. When she mentioned her fatigue to women at the community health center, they pulled leaves off a nearby moringa tree and mixed them with a popular peanut snack called kuli-kuli. Lisa ate the Kuli Kuli moringa snack everyday and found her energy return. She began working with villagers to encourage them to use moringa. They asked her to help them sell the moringa leaves. Lisa founded Kuli Kuli to help women in West Africa use more moringa locally and earn a sustainable livelihood by selling a portion of each harvest to the US.”

I love the flavor combo of peanut butter and chocolate so this smoothie flavor sounds really good to me! It’s made with a pretty simple ingredient list that includes the star ingredient, organic moringa which provides a one cup serving of leafy greens. This smoothie has 8g of protein and 4g of fiber that will provide energy and keep you feeling full. This would make for a great and quick snack option and is really easy to bring on the go too.

Kuli Kuli Organic Pure Moringa Vegetable Powder

“Kuli Kuli is the world’s leading moringa brand with the highest quality moringa on the market. Moringa is a leafy green more nutritious than kale. Research suggests that it may provide powerful anti-inflammatory benefits rivaling those of turmeric and potential benefits for diabetic patients. Kuli Kuli’s moringa powder, bars, smoothie mixes, shots, and teas are made in the US with moringa sourced directly from women’s cooperatives and small family farmers around the world. Called the “Top Wellness Trend” by Good Morning America, moringa is an extremely versatile and nutritious super green that can be blended into smoothies, sprinkled over savory dishes, or mixed into sauces. As the world’s premier moringa brand, Kuli Kuli sources only the freshest moringa leaves and maintains strict quality control standards.”

I’ve not done much research on moringa so after reading above that it has super anti-inflammatory properties it’s really got me intrigued. This is a packet of pure moringa powder that can be mixed in smoothies, dishes, soups, etc. or topped on salads, etc. It seems super versatile and full of nutrients. It seems easiest to mix in a smoothie but the other suggestions sounds interesting to I’ll have to get creative with how I test this one out.

Wooden Sunglasses

“Look slick with a touch of nature! This unique pair of sunglasses will certainly be noticed. These wood-finished shades, detailed with “Crunchy Mama” on the side band will help you make a statement. Bring the forest to your everyday wardrobe!”

Sunglasses are always super useful in the summer months! When the sun is shinning so much more than usual you can never have a pair too far away so these are really handy. These are not actually made of wood, but certainly look like it with the wood finish. I like the shape of the frames, they seem pretty versatile for any face shape. This is another great item for adding to the beach bag! Let’s hope we can somehow get to the beach this summer with the social distancing going on!

Wooden Coaster

“This cute trivet is made from wood and it’s big enough to place hot pans or tea kettles, or even an ice cold water or juice jug, at the pool or patio. It’s also beautiful by itself as a decorative piece, it’s so pretty.”

This is a nice and simply designed trivet and like it suggests above would be great to use outdoors. Maybe for a pitcher of some iced tea or lemonade? It would definitely look cute as an accessory on a patio table.

Scrunchie

“What’s old is new again with this adorable scrunchie. Pull your hair back for a stylish ponytail or on your wrist as a convenient fashion accessory.”

This is a fun little hair accessory! Admittedly, I’m more of a minimalist when it comes to hair ties, but this would add a fun detail to a topknot or ponytail. It’s really soft and I love the neutral color.

Monthly Stone: Citrine

“Citrine is a type of quartz with a yellow hue. Citrine became well known in the 17th century after Queen Victoria wore Citrine in her jewelry. It remained a trend with Hollywood stars wearing
statement pieces made from of the stone on the red carpet. Citrine is a bright, joyful stone with positive energy. In correlation with the Sun, it’s warm and comforting energy encourages new beginnings and living life to the fullest. While it is most often associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra, Citrine can also be used to cleanse and balance all of the Chakras. As mentioned above, Citrine is a popular stone used in jewelry. You can also keep it in your workspace to increase creativity and encourage a bright, joyful environment.”

I love citrine and it’s healing powers! It’s to bright and uplifting to look at and offers the same properties with it’s energies. With it’s connection to the sun, there couldn’t be a better pick for a mid-summer month. The sun always enhances my mood which is why I’m partial to the summer months, and this stone would increase those sunny feelings through a meditation practice right now even more. I’m glad to be able to add this to my collection!

Crunchy Mama Box Review July 2020 – Final Thoughts

I just love summer and love that this month’s Crunchy Mama Box is celebrating the season and the long sunny days. Everything included just has that summer vibe (and coincidentally coordinates with bright summery colors too!). Summer can get so busy, so it’s definitely important to have tools like quick on-the-go nutrition and self care options like the included smoothies, sunscreen lip balm and sunglasses. Of course it’s also important to rest after running around so the sheet mask, citrine stone and trivet for those patio sips are good reminders to put your feet up too. This box always has such an interesting selection and this month was no different. Looking forward to see what next month’s contents and theme bring!
