Lit Love Book Box Review: April 2023

Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including yourself.

–Anne Lamott

Lit Love Book Box is a monthly Canadian book box that allows you to choose from a selection of newly released books and pairs your pick with snacks, self-care, and other fun finds. April’s was my first, and it’s the Indulge Box with 6 to 7 items. They also make a Coffee Box that comes with a gourmet bag of coffee, a chocolate snack and the book of your choice. Both are available by the box commitment-free or by subscription. (Isn’t it nice to have options?) Here’s a closer look.*

*They kindly sent us this box for review

The box itself makes a cheery first impression with the floral label and coordinating sticker inside. And isn’t the branding super cute? I can totally picture their logo on t-shirts and notebooks and other bookish merch.

April’s book picks were 🔥🔥 and I feel like I would have enjoyed almost all of them but Sally Hepworth’s The Soulmate was it for me. 😍 One of my most-anticipated books of the year! I’m halfway through and it does not disappoint!! (I also love the Lit Love bookmark and the bookplate signed by the author.) Here’s the synopsis from the publisher:

“Prepare yourself for a thrilling, addictive novel about marriage, betrayal, and the secrets that push us to the edge in this latest book from the bestselling author of The Good Sister and The Younger Wife.

Picture a lovely cottage on a cliff, with sloping lawns, walking paths, and beautiful flowers. It’s Gabe and Pippa Gerard’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Over the past several months, Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge.

Until one day, he doesn’t. When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral. . . .Did the victim jump? Was she pushed? And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate . . . lie? As the perfect façade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel. Because sometimes, the most convincing lies are the ones we tell ourselves.”

Other book picks for April: Homecoming by Kate Morton; The Nanny by Lana Ferguson; Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Q. Sutanto; Divine Rituals by Rebecca Ross; and a surprise book which was The Lonely Hearts Book Club by Lucy Gilmore.

And for treats we’ve got:

Sea Salt Super Natural Potato Chips and Dark Chocolate Soft Peanut Butter Brittle — so delish nom nom nom 😋 and I love that Lit Love included both sweet and salty snacks

Blackcurrant Lemonade — super refreshing and I’ve been curious to try the brand)

Two small dishes — far too small for the serving of snacks I want to eat LOL but cute for jewellery and coins and stationery bits and bobs

Also a macrame dream catcher, which is lovely but probably not something I’ll use. (I’ll find a home for it ‘tho!)

And lastly a set of stainless steel straws with a cleaning brush, perfect for cold summer drinks and breakfast smoothies. Both of which I enjoy much more with a straw. (Why is that?)

If reading is one of your favourite ways to unplug, Lit Love Book Box makes a great way to do it. I was thrilled (!!) to see The Soulmate among April’s book picks and I’m just as excited about the selection they’ve put together for May and June. 😍😍 I love the variety of options with this one, not only with the book but also the kind of items you’d like to along with it. (The Coffee Box isn’t for me but a Tea Box would be fantastic! For you too? Let me know!)

And I can’t forget to mention their limited editions! The Meet Me at the Lake one is sold out but you can still nab The True Love Experiment Box if you’re quick. (That one ships May 16.)

Have you tried Lit Love Book Box? Can’t wait to hear what you think!
