Lookfantastic Beauty Box Review January 2021

Lookfantastic Beauty Box is a UK subscription box that delivers six premium beauty and skincare products for about $25 CAD/month. The goal: “to help you explore the beauty world and discover your new favourite product, to educate and encourage conversation on the latest beauty trends and to bring a little luxury each and every month.” January’s lavender-coloured box reminds me of spring and smells fresh too. (I actually worried that something had leaked but it was just one especially fragrant item.) *

* They kindly sent us this box for review.

There are four subscription options for the Beauty Box (all prices in CAD; I’m quoting the prices from the Canadian Lookfantastic site):

  • Month-to-month, $25/box
  • 3-month subscription, $24/box
  • 6-month subscription, $22.50/box
  • 12-month subscription, $21.50/box

Canadian subscribers pay approximately $12 shipping for the first box and subsequent boxes ship free.

Each Lookfantastic Beauty Box includes a product guide that’s like a mini magazine with information on the contents and how to use them, interviews with beauty industry professionals, brand features, etc. They’ve made some tweaks to the design and I definitely noticed. It feels fresh and modern with larger text, more white space and vibrant images. I didn’t read it cover to cover but it was fun to flip through and I always learn something.

AV Cleansing Bar (Avocado and Cucumber)

“A gentle, antibacterial cleansing soap to cleanse and purify both the face and body. Infused with calming ingredients avocado and cucumber which work to nourish, soften and awaken the senses.”

This was the product the smelled so good. I thought it was melon but as soon as I read avocado and cucumber that made more sense. I might tuck it in with my pyjamas for a while before taking it into the shower. (Some subscribers got the bar, others received a 7 ml-tube of Verso eye cream.)

Matte Me Ultra Smooth Matte Lip Cream (French Fancy)

“A liquid lipstick, intense in pigment, with a light texture and matte finish. In your box is one of four shades, all with a long-lasting colour that doesn’t flake or dry out during the day.”

I’m a tough sell on matte lipstick because most of them feel so dry but I tried this one after applying lip balm and it really made a difference. (That was a tip in the guide.) Subscribers got one of four different colours. I love this one.

Grow Gorgeous Balance Shine-Enhancing Overnight Mask

“A hair mask formulated to nourish your hair from roots to end. Getting to work overnight (when your hair is most susceptible to treatment), your Grow Gorgeous hair mask is formulated to enhance shine, reduce frizz, lock-in moisture and leave your hair with a silky-soft, salon feel once styled. Even better, your hair mask is completely vegan and its formula is free from parabens, sulphates and silicones.”

You put this on dry hair and leave it on overnight. And tuck it under a towel? Or put a towel on your pillow? I haven’t tried one before but I like seeing haircare in the mix. Have you used a hair mask or this one in particular?

So Eco Complexion Sponge

“An eco-friendly makeup sponge, perfect for applying cream/liquid products all over the skin for a flawless finish. With a pointed tip to reach those hard to reach areas, such as under the eyes and around the nose.”

I’ve just started playing with concealer under my eyes so I’m going to save this sponge especially for that. Lookfantastic recommends washing it with warm water and baby shampoo after each use. And each time you use it, run it under water and squeeze out the excess before dipping it into any product.

Starskin Nourishing Double-Layer Hand Mask Gloves

“A hand mask designed to hydrate dry hands and cuticles. Drawing on an innovative double layer technology that produces a ‘sauna effect’ to repair, condition and soften even the roughest of hands. With a blend of 16 botanical extracts and oils making up the formula, your hands will appear visibly softer and more supple after just one use.”

These gloves are going to be such a treat and my dry hands could use it. (Not dry from being outside in the cold — I haven’t been out in days! — but just from the dry air in the house.)

SVR Hydraline Legere Intense Moisturising Cream

“A facial moisturizer perfect for soothing very dry and sensitive skin. Dermatologically proven to keep skin moisturized for up to 24 hours, hypoallergenic and formulated specifically to treat even the most sensitive skin types.”

My skin is more combination/sensitive so I might gift this one or just try it on my neck or my hands. Either way it won’t go to waste.

I really like January’s mix of products with that spring-y avocado and cucumber soap setting the tone for a fresh new year. Like last month’s product guide, January’s did not include prices for each of the products so I can’t tell you the total value (nor is it available on the Canadian Lookfantastic site — there they have photos of January’s products but the description and value of the December box) but I’m very happy with it, and it’s certainly worth much more than the purchase price. The box and its contents arrived in pristine condition.

Have you tried Lookfantastic Beauty Box? What products or brands would you like to see in the future?
