Ruby Crate Teen Crate Review (Spring 2023)

Ruby Crate is an award-winning lifestyle subscription box for girls with options for ages 4 to 7, tweens, teens, and older girls heading to college or university. Cheerful packaging, personal touches and a variety of fun and trendy products that hit the mark for each age group make this box a joy. Ruby Crate was kind enough to send us the Spring edition for teens to share with you. Let’s dive in!

Each Ruby Crate includes a hand-written greeting card personalized for your teen by the co’s founders, an Ontario mother and daughter who created the box in 2020 when they couldn’t find anything like it on the market. (CBC Kids just did a great piece on 15-year-old chief crate-ive officer, Sienna Avery.)

Another card serves as a guide to the contents with brief descriptions of each item and the Instagram handles for each co. (I’ve included the descriptions in italics below.)

Pouch: “Keep all your “stuff” handy in this super soft linen pouch with cute wristlet. Locally made for our Ruby Crate girls.”

Clip: “Have fun with these oh-so-chic hair clips that complete your hairstyle for every occasion.”

Gummies: “No Ruby Crate would be complete without a yummy gourmet gummy snack. Enjoy!”

We love a pouch for corralling all kinds of rando stuff (makeup, maxi pads, markers, etc etc) and the positive affirmation is a nice touch. The hair clip is totally on-trend and fantastic for thick hair (i.e. my teen’s) and the gummies always a delicious treat. (The flavours vary by box; we got these raspberry, strawberry and black current red roses.)

Postcards: “Get decorating with these new spring-inspired postcards to add to your collection. Tag us with your designs!”

Ruby Crate includes new set of eight postcards with every box and we’re always torn about which ones to mail and which ones to keep. (They’re that good!)

Lip Combo: “Straight outta NYC — the perfect lip combo! Shaped like a lollipop, this lip balm and sassy lip gloss will sweeten your day.”

“Infused with rich, nourishing shea and cocoa butter, this luxurious cream will leave your skin feeling soft, smooth, and beautifully hydrated. Indulge in some “me time”!”

Two great products to help your teen feel put together and pampered. I’ve tried several Walton Wood Farm items and they make great stuff. (And Canadian too!)

Makeup Mist: “Look glowing with this makeup mist that hydrates, refreshes, and balances. Spray on and your makeup will last all day.”

My teen’s minimal makeup routine doesn’t include foundation so there’s not much to mist in place but we love it anyway. Feels so refreshing!

Bracelet: “Beautiful handmade arm candy just for you! Feel good knowing that each bracelet provides sustainable jobs to artisans worldwide. ❤️”

My teen has a couple of similar bracelets that she never takes off so this one is just her style. And it’s never too early to support companies that give back. ❤️

Recipe: “A new recipe from Rosie! These bright and delicious lemon bars are simple to make and even more fun to enjoy!”

My teen loves to bake and Rosie’s recipes are so good. I can’t wait to try the lemon squares!

Teens can be so hard to buy for but I feel like Ruby Crate has a great handle on what girls want.
