August Box Contents

Each month I’ll share the list of every item that came in my Splendid Spoon box and will choose a few to give a more in depth review on. This month my week’s worth of meals consisted of:

  • Mango Guava Smoothie
  • Cacao Almond Smoothie
  • Carrot Ginger Chia Smoothie
  • Raspberry Cacao Smoothie
  • Banana Flax Smoothie
  • Vegetable Bolognese Bowl
  • Roasted Cauliflower Bowl
  • Moroccan Spiced Buckwheat Bowl
  • Green Split Pea

Here’s a closer look at a few items from this month’s box:

Banana Flax Smoothie

“The liquid banana bread that’s good for your gut. BANANA Packed with potassium to regulate blood pressure, FLAX SEEDS Keeps liver function in tip top shape, and VEGAN PROBIOTICS Maintains gut integrity for optimal health.”

The ingredient list includes: Purified Water, Bananas, Organic Coconut Nectar, Organic Lemon Juice, Organic Almonds, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Pea Protein, Organic Flax Seeds, Himalayan Salt, GanedenBC30 Vegan Probiotic (Bacillus Coagulans BI-30 6086)

This smoothie is delicious! It’s a relatively simple ingredient list, fruit-wise, but it has such a nice flavor. It’s a little tart and a little sweet, but overall really mild and delightful. I wouldn’t say the flavor screams bananas, it’s more of a balance between the bananas, coconut and lemon. It has a slight texture from the almond and flax seed pieces, but they are ground up to be small and it adds interest in my opinion. I’ve been trying to increase my intake of flax seeds so this ingredient addition is perfect for me. Aside from the nuts and seeds, the texture is really smooth otherwise. It’s not super thick so it’s easy to drink. This is such a light and refreshing smoothie that would be good to enjoy any day and any time. I would think anyone would like this one. Because of it’s flavor and beneficial ingredient list, I will definitely be ordering this one again!

Green Split Pea

“Peas, please. Refreshing, light, and antioxidizing. TARRAGON Steadies sleep patterns, MINT Eases digestion, PEAS Satisfy your belly and stabilize blood sugar.”

The ingredient list includes: Water, Green Peas, Split Peas, Organic Carrots, Onions, Organic Celery, Lemon Juice, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Parsley, Basil, Tarragon, Sea Salt, Mint

I really like this soup! But, I really like peas so it makes sense I suppose. I’ve never actually had split peas so this was fun to try. Split peas are really just green peas that have been dried before using in prepared dishes, but I think this makes them more similar to a bean (just my observation). This soup has creamier base, not too thick but not super thin either. It makes it feel hearty and filling, and that’s aside from the other hearty and filling ingredients. The whole peas and carrots provide a great textural variety from the smooth base. The whole peas themselves are soft, yet not mushy and are much like a cooked bean texture. Overall the flavor is mild, but still distinct and interesting. It certainly tastes like peas, but the tarragon, mint and other herbs give it such a fresh and almost cooling effect to the flavor. That makes it a perfect summer soup, even when served hot, but it would also make a great hearty winter soup too. I would definitely order this one again!

Splendid Spoon Review August 2020 – Final Thoughts

I just love my Splendid Spoon deliveries! So much so, that I have added a subscription to receive more of the bowls per month than just this reviewed box. The meals and smoothies are just too convenient and delicious not too. The simple, straightforward and thoughtful ingredients in their recipes make me feel good about what I’m eating and they give me a variety in my grain, fruit and vegetable intake that I otherwise likely wouldn’t have. They could not be any easier or quicker to prepare, making them extra helpful for a busy mom like me. This month’s delivery included many items I’ve tried and loved before, but included a few new things too. One of their new recipes is the Roasted Cauliflower Bowl (which was also delicious by the way). Overall, I can’t say anything negative about this subscription, it’s just so good!
