December Box Contents

Each month I’ll share the list of every item that came in the box and will choose a few to give a more in depth review on. This month my week’s worth of meals consisted of:

  • Dragon Fruit Berry Smoothie
  • Raspberry Cacao Smoothie
  • Chocolate Cherry Smoothie
  • Mint Chip Smoothie
  • Cacao Almond Smoothie
  • Brown Rice Taco Bowl
  • Beans & Greens Soup
  • Vegetable Bolognese Bowl
  • Kale Pesto Noodles
  • Coconut Curry Rice Bowl

Here’s a closer look at a few items from this month’s Splendid Spoon box:

Beans & Greens Soup

“Fills you up, never gonna let you down. SPINACH – Popeye’s fave is loaded with iron and folic acid; BOK CHOY – Makes for happier gut flora; and PINTO BEANS Packs a protein punch.”

The ingredient list includes: Water, Organic Carrots, Pinto Beans, Onions, Black Beans, Organic Spinach, Bok Choy, Organic Tomatoes (Organic Tomatoes, Organic Tomato Juice, Sea Salt, Citric Acid, Calcium Chloride), Organic Celery, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Sea Salt, Curry Powder, Rosemary, Cumin, Black Pepper, Ginger

This is really nice and mild flavored soup. It has a relatively simple overall flavor that comes from the perfect mix of spices. I don’t exactly know how to describe the flavor. I’d say it tastes like seasoned beans I think, but it’s not mushy like beans. It actually has a nice consistency. It’s definitely a soup, but it has a bit richer and thicker broth. The the whole beans, bok choy, and carrots included add a good mix to the texture too. I like how spinach is kind of hidden in this soup too. There are no giant leaves floating around to ruin the texture, it’ not really noticeable. I like that this soup has the greens in it as it makes for an easy way to get in more greens without having to eat a salad. Overall this soup is really filling and satisfying for lunch. I don’t know that it would fill me up for dinner, but I like it for lunch and would definitely order this again.

Dragon Fruit Berry Smoothie

“A tropical smoothie with just the right amount of tart and sweet. RASPBERRY – Packs a punch of essential vitamins and minerals; PINEAPPLE JUICE – Reduces bloating and aids in digestion; and DRAGON FRUIT – Packed with prebiotics to promote a healthy gut.”

The ingredient list includes: Purified Water, Organic Pineapple Juice, Organic Dragon Fruit, Organic Raspberries, Avocado, Organic Pea Protein, Organic Chia Seeds, Organic Vanilla Extract, Himalayan Pink Salt

I really like this smoothie! Not only is it the prettiest one they have (look at that vibrant deep pink color!), but it just tastes so delicious too. It has a really light and refreshing flavor that speaks a bit more to hot weather and summer days, but is delicious anytime. The fruits included don’t overpower one another so I couldn’t say if this tastes more like raspberry, pineapple or dragon fruit. Maybe the later as it’s a hint more tropical in the flavor? But overall it’s really balanced. Not too sweet and not too tart. It’s one of the lighter smoothies of theirs that I’ve tried. It’s almost juice-like but does have texture and a hint of thickness. The overall texture is mild too though with a few fruit flecks throughout. Since this is on the lighter side, I don’t feel like it’s totally filling, but that wouldn’t deter me from getting it again. I often split these smoothies into two servings for a snack, but this one could probably be drank all in one sitting for a more filling meal. This smoothie is just so tasty! I really enjoy when it shows up in delivery. I would definitely recommend it for it’s flavor and for it’s ingredient benefits that help gut health. Love when something so tasty has health benefits too!

Digestion Shot

“A digestive tonic to soothe inflammation and promote gut health.TURMERIC – Nature’s best anti-inflammatory; GINGER – Boosts immune system and fights inflammation; and APPLE CIDER VINEGAR – Increases immunity.”

The ingredient list includes: Apple Juice, Apple Cider Vinegar, Ginger Juice, Turmeric, Cayenne Pepper

This is their newest wellness shot product and I’m excited it came in this month’s box. I’ve been working on healing my digestive health so this is perfect timing to try it out. At first opening it, it definitely smells of vinegar and seems like it might be potent. However, the flavor is milder than expected, although still on the intense side. There is noticeable heat from the cayenne, but it wasn’t too hot for me. It definitely has a kick and a warming sensation. The heat moves to throat and then you can almost feel it going to belly. It slightly lingers in the mouth, but not for long at all. Because of the flavor combo you might think it would be hard to drink and taking it as a shot like intended would be preferable, but it was actually sippable too. The flavors are balanced well and I actually really like this. I would order this again for sure.

Splendid Spoon Review December 2020 – Final Thoughts

I can never say enough good things about Splendid Spoon! My deliveries always make my day, and my lunch too haha. This month’s box didn’t send anything I haven’t tried before, other than the new wellness shot, but that’s not disappointing at all. While it would be nice to receive a bowl I haven’t tried yet, that’s getting harding and harder to come by as I’ve tried most of the bowls they offer now (well at least the ones that have ingredients on my personal approved list anyway). I like that my bowl selection included one of their noodle bowls as those are really delicious and a nice change of pace from soups and bowls. I love when smoothies are in my delivery too. I haven’t met a single one of them that I don’t like either, so any flavor they send is great and makes for a more exciting snack time for me. I love having the variety of different lunches and snacks throughout the week so that’s one of the things I (and my body) really appreciate about this subscription. Everything is made with simple, healthy, balanced ingredients and flavors. I love this meal subscription so much that I even order more myself in between my review deliveries – it’s that good!
