Wool Felted Pumpkins

“Discover the tactile and soothing art of wool felting as we sculpt a trio of charming pumpkins in luscious Merino wool roving. Fiber artist Dani Ives was introduced to needle felting in 2010 and has been hooked ever since, combining her background in biology and conservation education with her love of art. Dani shares her expertise and passion for the craft as we create our pumpkins in different sizes and silhouettes, learning how to turn soft wool fibers into shapes by sculpting and felting them together with barbed felting needles.”

I have tried my hand at needle felting in the past, so this month’s craft is not entirely new to me. But I am excited for a chance to revisit it and pick up some new tips and tricks!

Let’s take a closer look at everything included in this kit:

Project Card

Each box contains a folded card describing the project and introducing the maker. It also lists all the materials inside the box, and any additional materials to have at home if needed.

This kit includes enough wool tops and roving to create three pumpkins. The ecru-coloured Corriedale wool top is used to mold the basic pumpkin shape, after which you will wrap the coloured Merino wool around this base to create your pumpkin. Love these fall-themed colours here! It’s hard to pick, but I think my favourite is the yellow.

Felting Needles

You will receive felting needles in various sizes and shapes. From past experience, do be careful with these and watch where you are poking! These felting needles are barbed and really sharp. I made the mistake of trying to needle felt while watching TV and my fingers paid the price.

Wood Felting 8-Needle Tool and Felting Foam

A custom 8-needle tool is in this box to help speed up the felting process. Tools like this are great for felting large surfaces, while the individual needles are used for finer detail work. Use the felting foam block as a safe work surface.

Final Thoughts

This is the cutest project from The Crafter’s Box yet! I love these little pumpkins, which will be the perfect fall decor. Can’t wait to make a few of these to place around the house. These little pumpkins will also make the perfect fall-themed props for my blog photos. I tried and gave up on needle felting a while back, but am really glad for this chance to try it again. Even picked up some new tips and tricks from the instructional video! This is one of my favourite subscriptions to receive, and I just can’t recommend it enough to all my fellow craft enthusiasts out there.
