May Box Details

“The May Snack Box theme is: The Amazing Women of Vegan Snacking. This May, we are excited to introduce you to several woman-founded snack brands that inspire us. We’re making meals fun with Lotus Foods’ Forbidden Rice, enjoying our coffee with the newest mystery flavor from nutpods, and snacking on Byte Bars & Bobo’s Oat Bites! This month’s box has a total of 11 items that are packed with flavor: Chocolate, Nacho Cheeze, Maple and Tangerine! Can you guess the snacks? This box supports Reba & friends at Austin Farm Sanctuary, in Austin, TX.”

Here’s a look at what’s in the May Vegancuts Snack Box:

WOMAN-FOUNDED: Lotus Foods Organic White Jasmine & Forbidden Rice

“Caryl Levine was inspired by China’s black “tribute rice” during travels to Asia and made it her mission to help the world more sustainably grow rice using organic agriculture, rice biodiversity & supporting small farmers.”

I eat a fair amount of rice so this quick cooking package will be ultra convenient and useful for a quick lunch bowl. Top it with some veggies and a protein – easy peasy.

WOMAN-FOUNDED: Bobo’s Oat Bites

“Bobo’s was started by Beryl Stafford & her daughter Alex (the original “Bobo”) in 2003. The mother-daughter duo took their love for baking oat bars and worked hard to make it into the brand we know and love today. These bites are the perfect small treat to go with lunch, or as a between-meal pick-me-up.”

I love these oat bites but have only had the apple flavor so I’m excited to try this one. I received the Strawberry flavor which sounds so delicious. When I first tried these I thought the product looked a little small, but it’s so dense and rich that they are actually just filling enough for a quick snack.

WOMAN-FOUNDED: Byte Bars

“Casey Nunnelly & Sabina Rizzo started Byte Bars when they couldn’t find a satisfying snack that could keep up with their busy, athletic lifestyles. They tested the first iterations of these bars on the ski slopes of Colorado with their friends, and it’s paid off: These are the cleanest, best-tasting energy bars we’ve tried in a while.”

This looks so tasty! And the packaging is so fun and eye-catching it really drew me in right away. Then it says it’s a gluten free peanut butter chocolate chip bar? All the good things – yummo! And while it sounds and looks just like a treat, it’s actually got some healthy ingredients too like almonds, coconut, MCT oil, gluten free oats and date paste for sweetness instead of sugar. I’m sure this will be a favorite.

WOMAN-FOUNDED: nutpods *NEW* Sweet Crème Flavor

“In 2013, Madeline Haydon found herself frustrated with non-dairy creamer options. She resolved to commercialize a recipe for delicious plant-based creamer and 8 years later, nutpods is one of the #1 dairy-free creamer on Amazon.”

I don’t drink coffee which is what I initially thought of when I saw this, but I do drink tea and think this might make for a great tea latte. It’s sweetened with just stevia so I’m really curious what the flavor tastes like.

NuNature Premium Organic Date Syrup OR Natural Date Syrup

“This is a healthier sugar & honey alternative – it’s great on pancakes.”

Out of the two options, I received the Organic Date Syrup which I’m glad about since I usually try to buy organic products when I can. I’ve tried date syrup before and liked it so I’m curious to try this one too. Would be great on pancakes like suggested.

Foods Alive Unfortified Nutritional Yeast

“Every vegan’s favorite condiment: Sprinkle on any food to give it a nice cheesy taste.”

I know this is probably a really tasty cheese flavor alternative, but I’m actually trying to avoid yeast in my diet right now so probably won’t try this one out.

SNACKLINS Nacho Plant Crisps (2 per box!!)

“These are an experiment gone right! A crunchy, airy, plant-based crisp with the texture of a pork rind, made from simple ingredients: yuca, mushrooms, and onions. It’s a unique twist on the taste of cheddar without the dairy.”

I haven’t tried these yet, but one of the packages in the box had accidentally popped open in transit so I saw and smelled them and the cheddar aroma smelled delicious. They look kind of like pork rinds so I’m guessing they have that airy crispy texture. Could be a fun snack to try out!

Upcycled Grain Project Chocolate & Cranberry Up-Bites

“Jam-packed with fruit, super-seeds and delicious cocoa, these are a sustainable snack in so many ways.”

I love upcycled food products that try to reduce food waste so that is one big plus to this product. They also sound really delicious and use simple and healthy ingredients. These would make a great treat for a sweet tooth craving and also a great snack since they are convenient little snack balls.

Bakery on Main Maple Multigrain Muffin Oatmeal

“Oats & ancient grains with a delicious blend of maple and cinnamon.”

I eat oatmeal a lot so this is right up my alley. I try to avoid added sugar like this one has, but it sounds really delicious so maybe it will be a breakfast treat one of these days.

LIFEAID Dreamaid Go!

“Just add water: this has GABA and Valerian Root to help you get to sleep, with a sweet tangerine flavor.”

I’m always on the hunt for products that help with sleeping so this is intriguing. I’ve tried GABA supplements before and thought they worked pretty well so I’m excited to try this one out. It’s super easy to make and the tangerine flavor sounds tasty.

Bonus: Offblack Tea Sampler

This tea sampler came in a box a few months back and I loved the flavors and branding of it so I’m excited to have some more of it now. I love bonus items, especially when they are items you know you like already.

Vegancuts Snack Box Review May 2021 – Final Thoughts

I love that Vegancuts Snack Box focused on Women-owned brands this month and gave a little business info with each one. It makes it more fun to try products when you know the story behind them and it makes it even more worth supporting when they are women-led. Overall, as usual, this month they packed a fun, unique, eclectic and flavorful box of goods that all sound so tasty. I’m ready to get snacking!
