Vellabox Review September 2023

It’s fall, y’all! Or autumn, which sounds more sophisticated but doesn’t rhyme so clearly not as fun. With the season comes all the great scents, including the first of a few Vellabox has started to roll out. (If you don’t know Vellabox, it’s a monthly subscription box that sends you an artisanal candle + a small surprise.) Here’s a look at September’s delivery and some more about how it works.*

Vellabox has three subscription options:

• The Lucerna Box · One 4 oz candle (40+ hours burn time) + one surprise gift from $12/month
• The Ignis Box · One 8 oz candle (80+ hours burn time) + one surprise gift from $22/month
• The Vivere Box (that’s mine!) · One 16 oz candle (100+ hours total burn time) + one surprise gift from $29/month

All of the candles are made in small batches with 100% soy or coconut wax, primo fragrance oils and lead-free cotton wicks. The candle you get is chosen with your favourite scents in mind, which you indicate in a questionnaire when you sign up.

Monthly, 6-month and 12-month subscriptions are available. Shipping is free on all US orders and shipping to Canada is $5/month.

September’s bonus gift was a pack of two hanging air fresheners and oh my word (!) they smell heavenly! If we didn’t already have a car diffuser on the go I’d hang one of these from the rear-view mirror toute de suite. But as soon as it’s time to change it up, one of these is going in!

September’s Vellabox featured one of three different candles by Scent & Sprout of Brooklyn, NY. Mine’s called Autumn Nights, selected for fans of sweet & spice. (Which normally isn’t me, but I like this one.) It’s got notes of fig, sea salt, caramelized sugar, brown sugar, dark musk and amber.

“Autumn Nights” captures the essence of a tranquil evening as the season turns, weaving a symphony of sensations that evoke warmth, comfort, and nostalgia. Its gentle aroma draws you into a world where you can almost taste the caramelized sugar on your lips and feel the cool embrace of autumn in the air.

This is sweeter than most scents I like to burn, heady on the caramelized sugar but not overly spicey so it still works for me. Today I had it sitting on the windowsill in the kids’ bathroom and the afternoon light warmed the wax a bit and made the room smell nice.

If you like scented candles, Vellabox makes a really nice gift to give yourself or a loved one, plus it comes with a small surprise (love this month’s air fresheners!) so that’s a fun little bonus.
